Volvo Buses

From needle in a haystack to technical illustration.

The challenge.

Volvo 7900, a bus available both as an electric and hybrid vehicle, was originally released in 2011. Since then, mechanics have faced the same problem.

Interpreting these diagrams posed a challenge even for the most experienced professionals in the workshops.

This is one of the numerous electrical diagrams the mechanics had to reference to when a bus entered their workshop:

The solution.

I was part of the team that strived to make life easier for the mechanics.

This was achieved by locating the entire electrical system in an existing 3D model using CATIA, visualizing the components and wires, and recreating each electrical diagram in more user friendly way.

This is what it looked like when the diagram above was “translated” into a technical illustration:
